Too Loud

Reviewer: Kathy
Makes good ice cream, but machine is way too loud and seems fairly cheaply made with all plastic.

So EASY to use!
August 25, 2012
Reviewer: Elizabeth B. from Doon, IA United States
We bought this ice cream maker about 3 weeks ago and used it at least 7 times. The directions are really easy to follow once you find the recipes on the Whynter website. We haven't tried any of the custard based recipes, but the other ice creams are great!
The machine is a little noisy, but our 7 week old daughter sleeps through the noise and we still hear her if she is crying/whining. However, if a machine is churning, it's going to make some noise.
My best advice is to put the ice cream in a closed plastic container instead of the metal container if you plan to freeze a lot.
I also like the recipes are online, but they don't come as a hard copy with the machine.
So far, we have had no problems. I would also say that when you put the bucket in the machine to make sure the handle to the bucket lays down on the outside half of the machine, this allows the motor to lock into place easier and start the churning without trouble!
Great machine, definitely worth it!

This is a great ice cream maker. There's no need to freeze the bowl or wait to make a second batch.

Worth every cent

So far, we've made ice cream, sherbert, and gelato in this, and everything has come out perfectly. I personally don't feel that the machine is extremely loud, though it doesn't run silently either.
As far as the time it takes, it might make 1qt of pre-chilled mix in about 30 minutes, but not 2qts. For 2qts of pre-chilled ingredients, it seems to take close to an hour. For 1qt of hot ingredients straight from the stove, it takes about an hour. For 2qts of hot ingredients it takes about an hour and a half. And that's fine with me since it would take far longer to pre-chill a hot mixture in the 'fridge.
Cons: I do not like it that the plastic lid is attached with screws. It's not normally an issue, but if I overfill the machine, it makes clean up a pain. And I can't see that little spout being big enough to add anything. I just take the lid completely off if I need to add ingredients.

Great 2 Qt Icream Maker
March 14, 2007
Reviewer: Hector Guerra from Mission, TX United States
Pros: The machine is a 2 qt capacity. It works well and you do not have to freez bowls. You can make batch after batch of ice cream. Very simple to use. One on/off switch turns on the compressor, one timer button for time, and one button to turn on the mixer motor to churn the cream.
Cons: It is a little loud. You can still have a conversation standing 2 ft from it. What is loud is the fan that must draw air across the condenser to help in the freezing of the bowl. The compressor it self makes very little noise. I personaly do not find the noise such a bad issue. Some little cosmetic blemishes but they do not hurt the capablility of the machine. The spout that is placed at the lid is too small for large nuts.
I do recomend this machine for someone like me who cannot live with out ice cream. You must place the bowl in, turn on the compressor and let it stand for about 5 min before you turn on the mixer.
