We wanted a quiet dehumidifer for our finished basement. In June 2006 we bought a Danby DDR583R from Quality Matters. It was quiet and seemed to work fine, so 3 weeks later we bought another one of the same, or so we thought. Turns out QM sent us a DDR586R, the IDENTICAL machine but with a ONE YEAR warranty instead of two. Both worked fine through 2007, the DDR583R running every day in the basement and the DDR586R running maybe 5 times all summer upstairs. Stored them in closets for the winter. Come May we take them out again and NEITHER ONE works. Since it's been more than one year for the DDR586R, we are out at least 160 dollars for labor if we want to fix it. Bottom line: do not buy this machine if you want one that lasts for more than two years.
QualityMatters Response:I'm sorry about the confusion over this issue. While Danby has reduced their warranty period to 1 year, both of your dehumidifiers are still covered under their warranty. I have checked with our records and with Danby and they are currently repairing one of the dehumidifiers and we are completely replacing the other - both free under their warranty program. Please contact us if you need any other assistance in this matter.
